Small Group Curriculum:

Hayden, Joshua. Sacred HopeAncient Faith Series. (Kansas City: Barefoot, 2010).
I adapted this book for a teen retreat I did this winter.  It is a great introduction for teenagers to "kingdom" language.  The title of my retreat was missio, and that is exactly what Hayden discusses in Sacred Hope.  He moves the reader from our hope in the future (when the new heaven comes down to the new earth) to what that means for us now as we "practice resurrection" and "embody hope."  I especially appreciate the many cultural references he makes which give flesh and blood to his ideas.  From MLK jr. to Arcane Fire to the poet Wendell Berry, Hayden makes our sacred hope as Christians easy to understand, even as he continues to struggle with it and expects his readers to struggle with it (see chapter on "Embracing Questions").

Gonzalez, Justo L.  The Apostles' Creed for Today.  (Louisville: Westminster John Knox, 2007).
